These terms cover the goatr app and this website. They are deliberately short. The licence for the app itself is the one shown on its App Store listing — Apple's standard end-user licence agreement, unless that listing shows a custom one.

The app is provided as-is

goatr is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied — including fitness for a particular purpose, uninterrupted operation, or freedom from defects. It connects to servers you own or are responsible for, over SSH, and what happens on those servers is outside our control.

Your servers stay your responsibility

You are responsible for the servers you connect goatr to: for being allowed to use them, for what the app installs on them once you approve it, and for keeping the accounts and credentials it uses secure.

When you approve setup for a server, goatr writes its session components under ~/.goatr in your home directory there — the versioned binaries, session sockets and metadata, and shell wrappers that restore your environment. If you also enable the Claude Code helpers, it adds a permission block to ~/.claude/settings.json, the only file it touches outside ~/.goatr. Nothing is written to a server before you approve that server.

If you installed an earlier version of the app, its components went to ~/.longterm instead. The app does not migrate or remove that directory — it is left exactly as it was, yours to delete when you no longer want it.

No service from us in the middle

goatr talks directly to your server. There is no goatr account, no relay and no server-side copy of your sessions, which also means we cannot reach your server to fix, recover or restore anything on it. Keep your own backups, especially before you rely on session persistence for anything that matters.

Limits

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost work, lost data, lost access to a server, downtime, or any indirect or consequential loss arising from using the app. The app is a client you point at your own infrastructure; terminating it, uninstalling it, or deleting its directories can end sessions that were relying on them.

Independent of Herdr

goatr is an independent client. Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or maintained by the Herdr project.
